Oppo A93 5G surfaces on Chinese retailer with 90Hz LCD

Oppo certainly is gearing up to launch its next set of flagship devices in the form of the Oppo Find X3 series. The first leaks started to pop-out in the past few days and are building the hype for the new handset. However, this can hold the company from launching new mid-range smartphones under its affordable A-series. According to recent reports and evidence, Oppo is gearing up to launch the Oppo A93 5G. The device appeared yesterday on China’s Telecom Website with full specifications and renders. Now, the handset appeared on Chinese retailer TMall’s website in three distinct colorways.

Oppo A93 5G specifications

TMall’s listing further affirms some of the specifications already revealed by China’s Telecom website. The Oppo A93 5G flaunts a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution. Previous rumors were suggesting an AMOLED panel, but this will not be the case after all. At least, the LCD brings a refresh rate of 90Hz. Something that can’t be found in the 4G LTE variant.

The previous renders were suggesting curved edges, but today images say otherwise. Since the panel is LCD, we can only assume that it’s a flat one, as this kind of panel isn’t flexible as AMOLED ones. The handset still has a punch-hole in the top-left corner serving as a house for the 8MP selfie snapper. Moving around to the back, the handset has a 48MP primary camera and other unspecified 2MP sensors which we assume are for depth and macro shots.

Under the hood, the Oppo A93 5G brings a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC. In case you’re unaware, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 has been announced a couple of days ago as the first Snapdragon 4xx chipset to bring an integrated 5G modem. This chipset will help in the expected expansion of 5G to the low-end segment. The SoC is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal Storage. These certainly are more than what you expect in a budget handset. The device draws power from a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which keeps the rear clean.

The Oppo A93 5G will be available in Black, White, and a Purple-Blue gradient variant. The handset will cost  CNY 1,998 (~$310/€255) or 2,199 ($340/€280) in China, according to TMall listing. The pre-orders will start tomorrow and the actual sales will be open on January 20.
