Last week, Samsung posted a video showing a Galaxy smartphone with a sub-screen camera. Perhaps this is the Galaxy Note 21 Ultra, which is expected later this year.
Now it became known that Samsung Display has applied for trademark registration in South Korea. The UPC trademark was registered on January 15, 2021. This abbreviation is used to mean “Under Panel Camera” or sub-screen camera.
Samsung sub-screen camera will be used in smartphones, laptops and TVs
The trademark description states that Samsung wants to use the name in new smartphones, laptops and smart TVs. It is not yet clear which Galaxy smartphone will first feature this technology.
Samsung is not the only company that is working in this direction. In mid-2019, Oppo and Xiaomi have already shown smartphones with a camera under the display. Last year Xiaomi announced that it has already prepared the third generation of the sub-screen camera.
Also, the ZTE Axon 20 5G smartphone with a sub-screen camera has already been presented on the market, but in terms of image quality, it is inferior to the usual solutions.
A potential Galaxy Note 21 Ultra appears with a sub-screen camera
For CES 2021, Samsung has released several videos, including one dedicated to the Galaxy Upcycling recycling program. The surprise is when an unusual smartphone was noticed in the video, not yet officially presented by the Korean manufacturer. It could be the upcoming Galaxy Note 21 Ultra.
LetsGoDigital website drew attention to the smartphone that appeared in the video. It does not have a cutout or hole for the front camera.
Most likely, it uses a camera hidden under the screen, which Samsung is currently actively developing. The source also suggested that we will see such a design in the Galaxy Note 21 Ultra. This is supported by the rounded edges of the screen, as the Galaxy Note 21 is expected to have a flat display, like last year’s Galaxy Note20.

Huawei’s Under-Screen Camera Patent Appeared On The Net
In the past few years, we have seen various approaches for achieving a full-screen design. From the first notch screens to the current hole-punch screens, they all are not true full-screen smartphones. We could give this title to the ZTE Axon 20 but its under-screen camera technology has some bugs.
Anyways, we also know that Xiaomi and other manufacturers have been working on their own under-screen camera technologies. And most likely, this year, we will see it on various devices. But besides Xiaomi, there is also Huawei, who didn’t give up yet. Today, we got some patent photos of a new Huawei off-screen camera that caused hot discussions on the net.
As LetsGoDigital reports, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. applied for a design patent to CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Office) in May 2020, covering 7 product drafts and 2 renderings. These patents went online today on January 12, 2021.
We can see that the screen of the machine adopts a quad-curve design, and the front lens is under the screen.
Of course, the most surprising thing is that, in order to maximize the full-screen display, Huawei has innovatively added a secondary screen to the top frame of the phone. It should display information such as phone signal, time, and power.
In addition, the rear lens module of the new machine adopts a matrix quad-camera solution. It has some obvious protrusion when looking from the side. It comes with a super-outsole main camera and a periscope lens.
Except for the appearance, the patent does not disclose the parameter configuration information of the new machine.
