Vivo Y20G goes official with Helio G80, 5000mAh battery and more

Vivo Y20G

Vivo recently unleashed its Vivo X60 series with competitive camera specifications and a 5nm chipset from Samsung. However, the company does not make its name only with premium devices. The Chinese firm has been expanding its portfolio with many competitive devices over the course of years. Among the family of mid-range devices, we have the Vivo Y20 series. This lineup is quite special since already received a total of five handsets, namely Vivo Y2, Y20i, Y20A, and Y20 (2021). Now, the company wants to show that five isn’t enough as the sixth Vivo Y20 smartphone is coming with the Vivo Y20G moniker.

Vivo Y20G specifications

Under the hood, the Vivo Y20G carries the mid-range identity thanks to a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. This isn’t a bad chipset and still brings the gaming pedigree found in the Helio G-series. This chipset is based on a 12nm node and has two ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at up to 2.3GHz plus six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. The graphical tasks are ensured by a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU with 950MHz clock speed. The handset is paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 120GB of Storage. Unlike Vivo flagships, the Y20G brings a microSD card slot which allows storage expansion by up to 1TB.

The specifications come around a 6.51-inch LCD with HD+ resolution and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. This a waterdrop notch display where the cutout serves as a house for the 8MP selfie snapper. Moving around to the back, we have a Triple-Camera setup. The rectangular island comprises a 13MP camera, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor modules.

The Vivo Y20G packs a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. According to Vivo, this sensor can unlock the phone in 0.17 seconds. Of course, only real-life usage will tell if these claims are accurate. The device will ship in Obsidian Black and Purist Blue colorways. The handset draws power from a 5,000mAh battery that unfortunately charges a micro USB port. Despite the old standard, Vivo did some magic to ensure an 18W charging rate for this smartphone.

Pricing and Availability

The Vivo Y20G is part of the “Make in India” program. It is manufactured at Vivo’s Greater Noida facility in the country. The phone costs INR 14,990 ($205) and will be sold in India through the company’s local website. Other retailers such as Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm, Tata Cliq will also be offering the handset. If you prefer offline retail stores, don’t worry, the handset will also reach these channels.

The device has deep roots in the Indian market, for that reason, we don’t know if it will make way to other markets.
