After many betas, Apple is finally rolling out the official stable release of iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4. The two updates bring significant improvements as well as kernel and Webkit security fixes. For that reason, it’s recommended to install these updates at once. Interestingly, the new firmware also brings a controversial feature – the rumored notification that will alert iPhone 12 users if they have “non-genuine cameras”.
According to Apple, an unnamed malicious app could gain elevated privileges and serves as a gateway for exploits. The WebKit issues allowed remote attackers to execute harmful code on your handset.
The new iOS 14.4 update comes for iPhone 6s and up. It also covers the iPod Touch 7gen. The new iPadOS 14.4 will reach iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and up. Apart from the new notification that will alert whether your iPhone 12 has modified cameras, it also grants the ability to scan smaller QR codes. There is also an option to classify Bluetooth devices in settings that help collect Headphone Audio Level measurements on third party devices.
Worth noting that HomePod Mini owners will also be getting Ultra Wideband support on iPhone 1 and 12 models which come Apple’s U1 chip. This can speed up the handoff feature between HomePod mini and iPhone. It can ensure faster music transfers and haptic feedback. You can see all details through the changelog below:
