In recent times, there have been a lot of speculations regarding the iPhone 13 (or iPhone 12s). According to Barclays analysts, Blayne Curtis and Thomas O’Malley, all four iPhone 13 models will use upgraded ultra-wide-angle camera lenses with a variable aperture. The aperture could be up to ƒ/1.8, while that of the iPhone 12 model is ƒ/2.4.
Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, also claims that the ultra-wide-angle lens will be upgraded to ƒ/1.8 aperture. However, he claims that only the iPhone 13 Pro models will get this upgrade. Thus, the only consistent rumor is that the iPhone 13 series will use a higher ultra-wide-angle lens. As for the number of models to use this lens, the reports are not consistent for now. Ming-Chi Kuo also predicts that the flagship iPhone series in 2022 will retain this ultra-wide-angle lens.
A larger aperture will allow more light to pass through the lens. An aperture from ƒ/2.4 to ƒ/1.8 may significantly improve the low-light performance of the iPhone 13 model when shooting in ultra-wide-angle mode.
Furthermore, the Barclays analysts also claim that the standard version of the iPhone 13 Pro will still use the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s telephoto lens. However, it will have a focal length of 65mm and an aperture of ƒ/2.2.
Gizchina News of the week
Apple is expected to use the same display size and camera settings in the iPhone 13 product line. This means that it will have 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models with dual-lens cameras, and 6.1-inch and 6.7-inches with triple-lens cameras model. Other rumored camera functions include the expansion of LiDAR scanners and sensor mobile image stabilization to more models.
Further speculations show that the iPhone 13 series will reduce the size of the notch. In fact, there is one report that claims that it will not use a notch at all (probably false). In addition, because of the issues with using Apple’s Face ID while wearing a mask, its new series may return the Touch ID feature. This will be the first time that the company will use the Touch ID feature in many years. The reports, for now, shows that Apple will try to retain Face ID and Touch ID on its new smartphones.
iPhone 13 or iPhone 12s – which will it be?
There have been questions regarding the name of Apple’s upcoming series. Will it be iPhone 13 series or iPhone 12s series? Analysts believe that Apple will skip the “iPhone 13” because the number “13” is spooky in many western cultures. Technology manufacturers do this from time to time. Remember that Qualcomm recently adopted the number “888” for its latest flagship because it is a lucky number in China. There are reports that Apple will rather settle for “iPhone 12s” instead of iPhone 13. Furthermore, “s” with a smartphone usually refers to an upgrade to the original digital version. However, Apple has had many “13” devices in the past. It has the likes of the Bionic A13 chip and the 13-inch MacBook.
