Microsoft has not exactly been on top of its game when it comes to smartphones. However, the company is not entirely out of the smartphone scene. In recent times, the company has not been able to keep to its promise. After the launch of the Microsoft Surface Duo in September 2020, the company promised that it will release regular updates for this device. Although some updates are available for this phone, it is far below expectations. Nevertheless, the latest report suggests that the Surface Duo will soon get the Android 11 update. The report claims that this update will arrive as early as this summer.
In a briefing with the staff of Microsoft USA (Microsoft Surface Duo team), Dr. Windows stated that the Android 11 will arrive the Microsoft Surface Duo “this summer”. According to Dr. Windows, Microsoft made a lot of changes to improve the performance of the dual displays. He claims that these changes will also make their way into Android’s code. Of course, Microsoft and Google are working very closely to improve the system.
Gizchina News of the week
From the latest report, the earliest that this smartphone will get Android 11 is June this year. However, the report will not be false if the update arrives in September. Nevertheless, Windows Central Zac Bowden claims that the Microsof Surface Duo will get the Android 11 update in “mid-year”. This mid-year implies a June or July release and September is by no means “mid-year”.
By next week, the Microsoft Surface Duo will be available in Canada, France, Germany, and the UK. This report is a good news for those that plan to purchase this device.
According to reports, the Surface Duo’s unique dual-screen design makes more difficult to get regular updates. It takes longer to prepare its system adaptation plan and optimizations. Microsoft wants to improve Android’s support for dual-screen devices. This workload is very large and requires more development time.
The dual display Microsoft Surface Duo connects two 5.6-inch AMOLED displays using a hinge. Each display has a resolution of 1800 × 1350. After unfolding, you can get an 8.1-inch field of view with a resolution of 2700 × 1800. The display of this smartphone is both vertical and horizontal and the display ratio is 3:2. This “flagship smartphone” comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. This chip is two generations away from the Snapdragon 888 flagship chip and does not support 5G.
