Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max becomes America’s most popular 5G phone

A recent report from  PCMag, citing data from Speedtest by Ookla claims that as of January 2021, Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max is the most popular 5G phone in the U.S. This phone is actually the most popular in 49 out of the 50 American states. Ookla did research on the usage and sales of 5G phones in the U.S. Their results are not entirely a surprise, iPhone 12 sits comfortably in the top position. However, users seem to prefer the most expensive of the series.

According to reports, the standard version of the iPhone 12 Pro is the most popular 5G smartphone in the capital area of Vermont and Washington, DC. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro occupy the top three positions of the rankings. However, iPhone 12 series popularity does not extend to iPhone 12 mini. It ranks below Android devices like Samsung’s Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra in fourth and fifth positions.

The smaller iPhone 12 mini is far less popular. It appears that users have lost taste for the small 5.4-inch device. In fact, there are reports that Apple will discontinue the iPhone 12 mini due to poor sales. The iPhone 12 model supports ultra-fast mmWave 5G in the United States, and there are rumors that the iPhone 13 model will expand mmWave support to more countries.
