In the field of 5G, China has become a leader. It is not only the first country in the world to commercialize 5G in 2019, but also has a 70% share of the global 5G connection network in 2020. However, for China, this was a hard win. And it naturally cannot lose this hard-won advantage. So what is China doing now in terms of 6G development?
Huawei And ZTE Take The Lead
Huawei has become a world leader in the 5G field. By the third quarter of 2020, Huawei accounted for 32.8% of the global communications equipment market, ranking first in the world.
As for this new communication technology, Huawei started research very early. According to Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s 6G research has been conducted simultaneously with 5G.
This makes Huawei a step ahead in the new field, and Ren Zhengfei could confidently say that Huawei will also lead in six-G.
In June 2020, Huawei joined hands with China Unicom and Galaxy Aerospace to reach an air-space-ground integration strategic partnership agreement to jointly develop the 6G connection. In France, Huawei has also built a 6G R&D center.
Apart from Huawei, ZTE, another major communications giant in China, has also developed 6G. ZTE Corporation has made it clear that the company’s pre-research team is stepping up to overcome various key six-G prototype technologies.
When answering questions from investors on December 28, ZTE once again stated that the company has invested in 6G R&D and actively carried out exchanges and cooperation with industry peers.
China’s 6G Speeds Up
Under the leadership of Huawei and ZTE, China’s six-G is accelerating its research and development.
Gizchina News of the week
Today, many local operators, equipment vendors, terminal vendors, and other interested companies have all released 6G white papers and made some 6G layouts and predictions.
In November 2020, China also took the lead in launching a 6G communication experimental satellite, realizing the world’s first terahertz wave space research and development. This takes China’s 6G research forward one step further.
The current leading manufacturers in the industry chain, such as antennas and radio frequencies, have also deployed related technologies. At present, China’s industrial chain is accumulating power to break through.
6G Breakthrough
Although the 6G communication standard has not yet been formulated, countries have reached a consensus on the improvements that 6G will bring. And 6G has two distinct characteristics.
- One is global signal coverage.
6G communications are no longer limited to terrestrial communications. So terrestrial communications networks will be connected with communications satellites to achieve global signal coverage by land, sea and air. At that time, there were also unobstructed signals in inaccessible areas such as oceans, deserts, and deep mountains.
- The second is the faster speed.
Compared with 5G, the speed of the six-G will be 50 times that of 5G, and the delay will be greatly reduced. In this way, telemedicine and distance education will also go further.
However, the leap from 5G to the new generation still needs to overcome many problems, such as upgrading application materials and the application of 5G millimeter waves. 6G will usher in commercialization in 2030.
