With the recent controversy over WhatsApp’s privacy policy, many smartphone users decided to give other services such as Telegram and Signal a try. Both text messaging services are known for their secure and privacy-focussed features. Thanks to the recent boost of new users, Telegram has now started rolling out a new update to its messaging service. The new update brings a bunch of features to the table namely auto-delete messages, expiring invite links, and widgets.
Telegram now has auto-deleting messages, new unlimited groups, and more!
While auto-deleting messages might already be out there on a bunch of text messaging apps, Telegram has now received this new feature. Auto deleting messages have already been a part of Telegram but in a different way. Telegram’s encrypted Secret Chats can not be forwarded and has a self-destruct timer. Well, Telegram has now added the Auto-Delete feature to regular chats as well.
Gizchina News of the week
You can enable Auto-delete inside of chats and can set to delete either in 24 hours or in seven days. Of course, only those messages will be auto removed that are sent after enabling the feature. WhatsApp also introduced this feature last year and Signal has this since at least 2016. Telegram has also added a new “Broadcast Groups” that allows admin to add an unlimited number of members. Of course, only group admins will be able to send messages to make it a broadcasting group.
Unlike messages, the voice channel would be open to everyone inside the Broadcast Group. Telegram is teasing this feature as an “ideal for large communities”. Lastly, we’re looking at expiring invite links. Whenever you will share a link to your group, you will be able to set an expiry date as well as the number of uses. According to Telegram, the new expiring invite links will help admins to better moderate their group. They will be able to moderate who joins and keep private stuff private.
How to get all these features to your Telegram?
All of these new features should already be live on your Telegram and if that’s not the case, make sure to update it. Of course, these features are rolling out for both the Android and iOS platforms. It looks like Telegram wants to attract more users to switch from other text messaging apps and well, these features might work in the company’s favor.
