Back in 2019, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A80 as one of its most promising Galaxy A-smartphones. The handset was very innovative with a full-screen design and a motorized-rotating camera that could be used for main shots and selfies. In 2020, the company didn’t launch a sequel, and the rumored Galaxy A81 ended as a Galaxy Note 10 Lite. Now, new rumors are suggesting the arrival of a Galaxy A82 that will bring back the appealing design of its ancestor. In times of punch-hole displays, the company may bring back its motorized camera solution.
According to recent reports from ETNews, Samsung is gearing up to launch its Galaxy A82 5G. Some of the specifications of the handset have been revealed by the publication along with the expected price. The handset may come with the Snapdragon 855+ SoC. That’s right, the company will not be using the Snapdragon 870, nor even the Snapdragon 865 series. Perhaps, Samsung wants to make this device more affordable than other flagships. The Galaxy A80 wasn’t a cheap smartphone but was priced below the company’s flagship solutions.
Gizchina News of the week
The expected price for the handset will be between $620 ~ $710. That’s not too bad considering that you’ll be getting a bezel-less AMOLED display full of appealing aspects such as the rotating-motorized camera, the in-display fingerprint scanner, and 2019’s flagship SoC. Of course, if you don’t care for these aspects, then, the Galaxy A82 5G might be overpriced. Interestingly, an alleged Galaxy A82 5G passed by Bluetooth SIG certification a couple of weeks ago.
Galaxy A82 5G alleged specifications
Unfortunately, the specifications of the device are still a mystery and we need to digest some reports with a pinch or two of salt. However, the Snapdragon 855+ may be an undeniable fact at this point. The alleged Galaxy A82 5G was spotted recently on GeekBench with model number SM-A826S. The device got benchmarked with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ and 6GB of RAM. The device probably will come in variants with 6GB of RAM and 8GB of RAM. Storage-wise we may have options with 128GB and 256GB. Unlike the Galaxy S21 family, there is a strong chance that the A82 5G will have a microSD card. After all, most Galaxy A smartphones still bear this feature.
We expect more details to surface in the coming weeks. The handset will certainly be a fresh air in these days of punch-hole displays. Companies have completely left the pop-up camera solutions behind. Now they’re sticking with cheaper punch-hole cameras while the in-display selfies don’t become mainstream.
