Huawei surprised many users by equipping the nova 8 smartphones with the Kirin 985 SoC, which was used in the nova 7 line. Agree, getting a new smartphone on an old SoC, albeit quite powerful, is not quite what you expect when buying a new product. But Huawei nova 9 will not disappoint in this regard: the SoC will be new.
Huawei nova 9 will arrive with the Kirin 990E SoC like the Mate 40E
According to the source, the nova 9 will switch to the Kirin 990E 5G. This SoC is used in the budget flagship Mate 40E, as well as in the Mate 30E Pro 5G. And although there is no need to expect a dramatic improvement in performance when moving from Kirin 985 to Kirin 990, the new SoC is faster in AnTuTu and Geekbench multi-threaded test by about 20%. The Kirin 990E also does better in terms of energy efficiency, although both platforms are 7nm.
Nothing is reported about the characteristics of the nova 9 itself, as well as there is no data on the possible date of the announcement of the smartphone or the entire line.
Gizchina News of the week
Kirin 990E 5G
It is worth mentioning that earlier this month, Huawei officially unveiled its new Huawei Mate 40E smartphone; which will join the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro + and Mate 40 RS Porsche Design models.
The new Mate 40E smartphone has almost the same characteristics as the standard version of the Mate 40. The main difference is the Kirin 990E 5G SoC used, while the Mate 40 is equipped with the Kirin 9000E SoC.
That is, this is the affordable version of the Huawei Mate 40, which is available with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage for $700 and with 8/256 GB of storage for $780. Acceptance of pre-orders has already begun, and sales in China started on March 18th.
The smartphone is equipped with a 6.5-inch screen with a resolution of 2376 x 1080 pixels; which supports an image refresh rate of 90 Hz and a polling rate of the touch layer of 240 Hz. It has Bluetooth 5.2, GSM, HSPA, LTE, 5G, WiFi 6+ and NFC modules.
The main camera uses image sensors with a resolution of 64, 16 and 8 megapixels; the front camera is 13 megapixel. The 4200 mAh battery supports 40-watt charging.
It is also reported that the affordable version of Huawei P50 will be equipped with a Kirin 9000L SoC; which is produced according to Samsung’s EUV 5nm process technology. The overall design is similar to the Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000E; but the Kirin 9000L has relatively simpler GPUs and NPUs. At the same time, Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pro + will receive Kirin 9000E and Kirin 9000, respectively.
