Vivo is one of the companies pushing 5G connectivity forward. The brand has a plethora of smartphones offering fifth-gen network support in the various market segments. Today, the company is adding a new mid-range contender with 5G connectivity. The new handset carries Vivo Y72 5G moniker and brings compelling specifications. The new mid-range comes while most Vivo enthusiasts are holding their breath for the new global Vivo X60 variants. If you’re in the market for a budget 5G handset, then the Y72 may be a great option for you.
Vivo Y72 specifications
Under the hood, the new Vivo Y72 5G packs the MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G chipset. For those unaware, this is an Octa-Core chipset featuring four ARM Cortex-A76 cores with 2.2GHz clock speed plus four ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a 2GHz clock speed. Graphical tasks are ensured by a Mali G-57 MC2 GPU. The horsepower is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. If that isn’t enough for you, you can easily expand it with a good microSD card.
Gizchina News of the week
The phone flaunts a 6.58-inch IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch serving as a house for the 16MP selfie camera. It also has a 90Hz refresh rate which puts it on par with modern mid-range phones. Moving around to the back, we have a 64MP primary camera sitting alongside an 8MP ultrawide snapper and 2MP macro camera. The camera island design is reminiscent of that of the Vivo X50 and Vivo X60 series, obviously with fewer cameras. The back panel is clean and only has the camera cutout and the Vivo’s logo in the bottom-left side. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the side. It also doubles as a power button.
Interestingly, the phone runs Funtouch OS 11.1 on top of Android 11. This further confirms an odd fact – Vivo keeps pushing Funtouch OS in global markets while China is getting the newest OriginOS.
Pricing and availability
The Vivo Y72 5G is available in Graphite Black and Dream Glow colorways. The device retails in Thailand at around THB 9,999 which is roughly around $323 / €271. The first sales will open on March 31. The device is available only in Thailand at the time of this writing, but we believe that it may hit other markets across Asia and Europe very soon.
