Earlier, Korean media, The Elec, citing a report from UBI Research, claims that Samsung plans to produce low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED displays for Apple in the first half of 2021. LTPO displays consume less power than standard OLED displays. The report also claims that these displays will be for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. According to reports, the two models use the codenames D63x and D64x respectively.
At the time of the report, the refresh rate of the display was not known. However, a recent report from popular Weibo leakster, @DigitalChatStation, shows the refresh rate. His Weibo post earlier today shows that Apple is testing the new iPhone 13 Pro series with the Samsung LTPO 120Hz screen. The new report here is that the display is already in testing and it is a 120Hz display.
Recall that Apple is yet to use above 60Hz refresh rate for any of its iPhones. The company has not even used the 90Hz refresh rate. Its latest flagship, iPhone 12 Pro Max, comes with a 60Hz refresh rate display.
Gizchina News of the week
The Elec said that Apple will use LTPO TFT OLED panels in the high-end iPhone models launched in 2021. In addition, these panels will be provided by Samsung. LG Display will provide standard LTPS TFT OLED panels for low-end models. Apple’s higher-end iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will use a faster 120Hz refresh rate. It will achieve a display similar to the iPad ProMotion technology.
iPhone 13 models will provide 1TB storage space and LiDAR camera
Apple usually distinguishes its “Pro” series of iPhones from the “cheaper” standard version. However, in 2021, Apple may provide similar features for all iPhone 13 models, at least in terms of maximum storage capacity and cameras. According to the latest reports, the four iPhone models arriving later this year may provide up to 1TB of storage space and lidar cameras.
A new note from Wedbush analysts, Strecker Backe and Daniel Ives claims that all iPhone 13 models, including the lower-priced iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13, will be equipped with up to 1TB of internal storage space. This will be the first time Apple will provide users with a 1TB storage capacity. The two analysts also claim that all iPhone 13 models will use lidar cameras. However, Barclays analyst, Andrew Gardiner, previously stated that only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be equipped with a lidar camera.
