Oppo launches budget A54 smartphone but with dated operating system

Oppo A54

Oppo has now finally launched its budget smartphone dubbed Oppo A54. We’ve been hearing about the device for the last couple of months. Last month, it appeared in Japan at one of the domestic carrier’s listings. In fact, it even passed the CQC certification earlier this month. Well, after making its round for certifications all across the globe, the smartphone has finally landed in the Indonesian market.

Oppo A54 is an entry-level smartphone that comes packed with a stylish design, a MediaTek chipset, and a large battery inside.

Oppo A54 smartphone goes official with Helio P35 and 5000mAh battery!

The entry-level smartphone is equipped with a 6.51-inch LCD panel with an HD+ resolution. Of course, we’re looking at the 60Hz refresh rate considering the price bracket it falls in. Under the hood, the device runs on a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset that is built on a 12nm manufacturing process. The chipset is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. The internal storage is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD slot.

In terms of optics, we’re looking at a triple camera module on the rear featuring a 13MP primary sensor along with 2MP depth and macro lenses. Looking at the design, it’s easy to get confused with the quad-sensor module. On the selfie, there is a single 16MP front shooter housed inside a punch-hole cutout.

Oppo A54

While the smartphone is launched in 2021, it still runs on the older version of Android. We’re looking at Android 10 with ColorOS 7.2 skin on top. All of these get juice from a large 5,000 mAh battery that also supports 18W fast charging. Considering the price bracket, it’s nice to see fast charging capabilities. Another good thing is the addition of the USB Type-C port for charging.

Surprisingly, we’re also looking at IPX4 water resistance. This means that the device can withstand splashed water like rain or sweat. The Chinese smartphone maker has also made sure to keep the 3.5mm headphone jack.
