Samsung is about to enter the third generation of its Galaxy Z Fold series and the second of its Galaxy Z Flip. The company still has the foldable segment under its belt, but this can change in the future as more companies are making their entrance in the segment. Earlier this week, for example, Xiaomi unveiled its Mi Mix Fold which is a worth flagship foldable smartphone to compete with the Galaxy Z Fold series. Samsung is ready to respond in the next few months with new foldable phones. We expect both the Galaxy Z Flip2 and Z Fold 3 to be launched simultaneously alongside the Galaxy Note 21 series. Today, the Z Flip2 had its battery size revealed.
The new clamshell-like foldable smartphone is starting to becoming consistent thanks to new leaks. Today, we got info regarding the smartphone’s battery thanks to certifications from the Safety Korea, 3C, and the DEKRA agencies. Samsung will appeal to dual-cell battery technology with its next foldable smartphone. We assume that each one will go in a particular part of the foldable structure. According to Safety Korea certification, the two cells have EB-BF711ABY and EB-BF712ABY model numbers. The former has a 2,370mAh capacity, whereas the latter is a small 903mAh unit.
Gizchina News of the week
Galaxy Z Flip coming with a modest 3,300mAh battery
The total combined capacity stands as 3,300mAh. Interestingly, this matches the original capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Flip 5G. Unfortunately, this is very small if we compare it with today’s standards. Nowadays, smartphones are easily going beyond 4,500 and 5,000mAh capacities. The Galaxy Z Fold 2, for example, reached the market with a 4,500mAh battery. However, it’s much easier to pack bigger batteries in a device that when unfolded has the size of a tablet. The Galaxy Z Flip2 will come with the series usual clamshell-like design. When unfolded it has the size of a regular smartphone, but when folded it looks like a compact flip smartphone.
Unfortunately, we assume that it will take time until companies manage to fit larger batteries on devices with this form factor. Motorola’s RAZR is even below with a small 2,510mAh battery. So for now, the Z Flip 2 will still be the clamshell-folding smartphone with the largest battery. The larger battery of the phone will presumably go in the bottom part, whereas the top half will fit the smaller battery.
According to rumors, the Z Flip2 will pack the SM-F711 model number. Moreover, it will come with a 120Hz AMOLED display with narrower bezels. In addition, it will have stereo speakers and 128GB/256GB storage configurations. The chipset will certainly be upgraded as well as the camera technology. There is no info from Samsung regarding the device’s launch just yet. But we assume it will appear in time for August’s Unpacked event.
