Oppo usually builds the hype through teaser campaigns for some of its smartphone launches, however, this isn’t the case with the Oppo A74 series. Well, this often happens with some of the company A-series smartphones. These devices meant for the mid-tier and low-end segment don’t get the same highlights of the Find and Reno series for example. That said, the company has officially revealed the Oppo A74 4G and Oppo A74 5G in the Philippines. It also appeared on Oppo’s Cambodia website and the 5G variant is up in Thailand. Both devices have some semblances, but the specifications are different, starting from the chipsets.
Oppo A74 4G and 5G specs
The Oppo A74 4G boasts the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. This is the only storage amount available, but you can easily expand this amount with a microSD card. The 5G variant, on the other hand, packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset. This is the most budget offering Qualcomm has for ensuring 5G connectivity. The 8nm chip brings an integrated 5G model offering download speeds up to 2.1 Gbps. It’s available on the same 6GB/128GB configuration.
Gizchina News of the week
The A74 4G flaunts a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution. The refresh rate of this model is 60Hz, but there is a game boosting mode that sets that touch sampling rate from 135Hz to 180Hz. The 5G variant, has the same screen diagonal but upgrades the refresh rate to 90Hz and native 180 Hz touch sampling rate, despite the upgrade in refresh rate, we assume the 5G phone has an LCD screen. After all, the 4G model has an in-display fingerprint scanner, while the Snapdragon 480-powered model boasts a side-mounted scanner. The 4G offers a 92% DCI-P3 coverage, while the 5G model has 100% coverage.
The Oppo A74 5G has a Quad-Camera setup led by a 48MP camera. It also comprises an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 2MP modules for macro and depth shots. The selfie shooter is a 16MP snapper. The LTE variant drops the 8MP ultra-wide camera but has the same 16MP punch-hole snapper.
Both handsets come with a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. This rate is only achievable through a USB-C port. According to a leaked poster, a full charge will take around 72 minutes. Both phones also have a 3.5mm headphone jack and come with Android 11-based ColorOS 11.1.
