Redmi 20X exposed: It’s not what we expected

Redmi 20X

Redmi 20X has surfaced online. It is an upcoming entry-level smartphone from the Chinese company. The launch of this phone is imminent in China as a leaked poster has revealed not only its price but the design, key specifications, and color options as well. However, this phone is actually not a brand new phone. We have seen this phone somewhere before. But first, let’s recall the Redmi 10X series which was launched in China.

The Redmi 10X series was launched last year in China. The lineup consisted of 5G and 4G mid-range smartphones. Redmi 10X 5G came with a Dimensity 820 chipset. It featured a 6.57-inch S-AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. The phone has a 48MP triple rear camera setup with an 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP depth sensor. 16MP selfie camera was present on the teardrop notch. This phone got popular thanks to its 5G chipset as it was one of the first ones to get the 5G Dimensity chips however it lacked many features including a punch-hole notch, higher refresh rate, and a bigger battery.

The leaked poster is not official yet, and hence take it as a pinch of salt. If you look at the poster, it reveals that the smartphone has a punch-hole notch display which looks modern compared to a tear-drop notch display. It has a new camera design as well. You may like it or you may not. But I would still prefer Redmi 10X’s design as it looked more premium. This design shouts “I’m a budget phone!”. Anyways, moving forward, there are three color options including Green, Blue, and Silver.

Redmi 20X is not a new phone

Now, if this phone looks familiar to you, then it’s because it is the Redmi Note 10 5G smartphone. It was unveiled last month for the global market. There could be some changes in the hardware department. But there is a high chance that the smartphone gets re-branded without any change for the Chinese market. To recall, the Redmi Note 10 5G came with Dimensity 720 chipset. It has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. The smartphone features a 48MP triple rear camera setup with a 2MP macro and 2Mp depth sensor. It has an 8MP selfie shooter. The smartphone packs a 5000mAh battery that can be charged at 18W.

Looking at these specifications, the Redmi 20X does not look like a successor to Redmi 10X 5G. Although, don’t forget about its price tag. The smartphone starts at just 999 Yuan (~$152)  for the 4/128GB variant. It is cheaper than Redmi 10X 5G model, and not only that this phone will be one of the cheapest 5G phones in China.
