Xiaomi and Oppo are planning to present their own 5G processors soon

5G smartphones

Now in the market of mobile chips for 5G smartphones, MediaTek and Qualcomm are leading, their products are actively purchased by manufacturers of mobile devices. But smartphone manufacturers themselves are not averse to starting to create their own mobile processors in order to reduce costs.

Last year, there was a lot of talk on the network that Oppo is aiming to create its own chip and is investing decent funds to eventually get it. Xiaomi made an application to start offering branded chips back in 2017, but things did not go beyond the release of one processor. Nevertheless, this year Xiaomi has confirmed that it has not abandoned the idea of creating its own chip and is actively investing in this direction.

And now the message has come that Oppo and Xiaomi are almost one step away from the presentation of their own 5G chips. Their premiere should take place at the end of 2021 or already at the beginning of 2022. There is an assumption that chipmaker UNISOC helps companies create processors. Considering the weight of the company and its success in the field of creating processors; it is not the most successful partner.

But this choice can be explained by the fact that Unisoc is a Chinese processor manufacturer. And now the goal is to take the semiconductor industry in China to a new level. The Chinese are investing huge funds to start mass-producing microcircuits on their own.

Do not expect that Xiaomi and Oppo will soon be able to release smartphones with branded chips. Their production is a laborious and costly process, both in terms of time and money. They will not be able to do without Qualcomm and MediaTek platforms for a long time.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, the head of Oppo has confirmed the company’s commitment to making chips. In addition, he announced that they will begin working with key vendors to develop branded mobile processors.

Recall that recently, Oppo has especially stepped up to attract personnel capable of setting up the development of processors. It is known that former employees of MediaTek will be at the helm of the project; and UNISOC engineers will be the “brain”. In addition, Oppo is counting on the fact that it will be able to lure specialists from HiSilicon and Qualcomm into its ranks.
