HMD Global may not have the most appealing Nokia smartphones nowadays, but it certainly is one of the companies offering the best support for its existing devices. This year, we’re seeing that Nokia is clearly focused on the mid-range and low-end segment. The recently released Nokia X10, X20, G10, G20, C10, and C20 shows that clearly. We don’t know if the company will bring a new flagship after all those years, but it’s great to see a brand that is keeping low-end and mid-tier devices updated. Today, the brand is rolling out the Android 11 update for the Nokia 4.2 which reached the market with Android 9 Pie.
The Nokia 4.2 was introduced back in May 2019 with Android 9 Pie. It received the Android 10 update last April, now it is receiving its second major update in the form of Android 11. The two major upgrades aren’t a big surprise for Nokia enthusiasts around the world. After all, all the smartphones released by the brand come as part of the Android One program. The program ensures at least two major Android upgrades and three years of security patches. That said, we assume that Android 11 is the last update reaching the Nokia 4.2 which probably won’t get Android 12. The device may still get new security patches until May 2022.
Gizchina News of the week
The new firmware update comes with version number 3.150 and requires a download of 1.5GB. It bumps up the Android security patch level on the Nokia smartphone to March 2021. Sadly, it didn’t get the latest April patch, but it’s better to have a March patch than what was available before. Besides the newer security patch, we have the whole set of Android 11 goodies. The list of add-ons includes one-time app permissions, chat bubbles, revamped notifications, new media controls, and smart devices shortcuts on the power menu. The update is currently rolling out for the markets listed below:
Android 11 update coming for Nokia 4.2 in the following markets:
- Armenia
- Belarus
- Bulgaria

- Czech Republic (O2 CZ)
- Israel
- Kazakhstan
- Mongolia
- Poland (Plus, Orange PL, PLAY)

Worth noting that, at least for now, the update is rolling out gradually. The company will roll out the update to a few smartphones. If no critical bug appears in the next two days, then the company will begin a wider rollout on April 12.
