For Vivo, launching multiple variants of certain smartphones isn’t a big problem. The company has no less than six smartphones under the Vivo Y20 series, and apparently, this isn’t enough. Today, the Chinese smartphone maker is introducing a new variant that goes with Vivo Y20S [G] moniker. This certainly stands as the most strangely named smartphone in this family. The new device went on sale in the Philippines today as a version of the Vivo 20S featuring the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. We assume that the “G” comes from the chipset.
Vivo Y20s [G] specifications
The device honors the Vivo Y20 series bringing some specifications that are common among all smartphones in this lineup. That includes a 6.51-inch LCD with a waterdrop notch at the front. This display offers 1,600 x 720 pixels of resolution (HD+) and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The notch cutout serves as a house for the 8MP selfie snapper.

Moving around to the back, the smartphone packs a triple-camera setup. The handset has a 13MP f/2.2 main camera, a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor for bokeh effects. Under the hood, we have the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. For those unaware, this is a 12 nm-based chipset with two ARM Cortex-A75 cores operating at up to 2.0GHz plus six ARM Cortex-A55 cores operating at up to 1.8GHz. The chipset has a Mali-G52 GPU and includes a bunch of MediaTek-specific technologies to improve the experience. This certainly is a mid-range chipset and nothing beyond that, still, it’s one of the best chipsets available in the budget segment. Of course, save for the 12nm standard which is a little bit old and less efficient nowadays.
The phone is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. Of course, you can expand this amount thanks to a dedicated microSD card slot. The phone runs Android 11 straight out of the box and it has Funtouch OS 11 running on the top. For now, OriginOS seems to be a Chinese exclusive software skin. The phone draws power from a huge 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. However, it still comes with a micro USB standard. The handset has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Pricing and Availability
The Vivo Y20s (G) is sold in the Philippines for PHP 9,990, which is roughly converted to $205 / €190. The phone is already available in the country from Lazada and Shopee. The retailers will throw vivo TWS earphones as a gift that cost PHP2,499 ($51/€43) when sold separately. Users can pick any color between Obsidian Black and Purist Blue.
