The next week will be quite hectic for Oppo enthusiasts in India. The company is bringing its Oppo A54 on April 19 and the recently announced Oppo A74 5G on April 20. The new devices aren’t really new for those who are following international launches. With these two releases, the company will further enforce its presence in the mid-range segment which is currently dominated by the likes of Xiaomi and Realme (Oppo’s former sub-brand).
Oppo A54
For those unaware, the Oppo A54 is a 4G LTE smartphone due to the presence of a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC. This chipset has eight Cortex-A53 cores operating at up to 1.8GHz and it’s based on an old 12nm standard. The handset flaunts a 6.51-inch HD+ (1,400 x 720 pixels) and has a top-left punch hole serving as a home for the 16MP selfie snapper. This display is a standard 60Hz panel, but this is hardly a surprise when we know the Oppo A54 specifications.

Moving around to the back, the device packs a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP depth, and 2MP macro shooters. The smartphone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and ships with a 5,000mAh battery. Thankfully, it is equipped with a USB-C port that offers up to 18W fast-charging. The major downside in this phone is the fact that it runs Android 10-based ColorOS 7.2.
Oppo A74 5G
The Oppo A74 5G has better specifications such as a 6.5-inch LCD with FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and a 90Hz refresh rate. The display also has a top-left aligned punch-hole comprising a 16MP selfie snapper. Under the hood, it carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset which ensures 5G connectivity. Although it is part of the low-end Snapdragon 400 series, the SD480 is far better than any of its predecessors and can even outperform some SD600 series chips. The device is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. You can also expand this amount thanks to a microSD card slot.
The A74 5G packs a Quad-Camera setup comprising a 48MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth modules. The phone draws power from a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. In counterpart to the Oppo A54, the A74 5G comes with the latest Android 11-based ColorOS 11.1 which brings a set of improvements, new features, and UI changes in comparison to Oppo’s former ColorOS 7.2.
This handset also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and comes with dual-mode 5G (SA/NSA). It will cost under INR 20,000 in India, which is just around $270. The pricing for the A54 is yet to be revealed.
