Back in October 2018, Samsung launched a smartphone dubbed Galaxy A9 (2018) in several markets. The device was launched with Android Oreo out-of-the-box which soon got upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie. If you look at the spec-sheet, you would know that this is one aging smartphone. For the last couple of years, Samsung has improved its software rollout game by seeding new security patches and new versions to its product portfolio.
Well, Galaxy A9 (2018) users have now received a surprise treat from the company. The smartphone maker has now rolled out a new update to a soon-to-be four-year-old smartphone.
Galaxy A9 (2018) surprisingly gets a new firmware update!
Samsung has now started rolling out a new software update to its 2018 Galaxy A9 smartphone. The update carries the firmware version A9200ZCS4CUD1. If you’re wondering, we’re talking about the SM-A9200 model of the device. The new update is bringing the latest April 2021 security patch to the smartphone. Considering how old the device is, the new rollout was a bit out of the blue.
Gizchina News of the week
Well, the new rollout is currently limited to the Chinese market. There’s no information as to whether the firmware will make its way to more regions. We’re hoping that to happen in the coming weeks or months. If you’re wondering that the update also brings some new features, then you’re going to be left disappointed. With the device being more than three years old, Samsung will not bring any new feature to it whatsoever.
If you meet the location requirement and own the device, then you might have already received the update notification. If not, then you can go ahead and check for it manually by heading over to Settings>>Software Update>>Download and Install. Previously, Samsung also rolled out the same security patch to the Galaxy A9 Star smartphone. This device was also launched way back in 2018. The availability of the update for that device is limited as well.
