Back in the last year, Motorola decided to revamp its smartphone lineup with a new premium flagship series. The company passed some years focusing in the mid-tier segment but decided to make a comeback to the flagship category through the release of a new Motorola Edge series. The first devices to come were the Motorola Edge and Edge Plus.
The former is a premium mid-range smartphone with Snapdragon 765G, while the latter was a flagship with the Snapdragon 865. Earlier this year, Motorola proved that the smartphone lineup is still alive with the release of the Motorola Edge S. However, the company made a controversial move bringing this smartphone to the global markets as Moto G100. This has raised some doubts about the Edge Series future. As per a new leak, the Edge series will not become a China-exclusive lineup and the Lenovo-owned company is preparing no less than four new Motorola Edge smartphones.
The renowned leakster Evan Blass from @evleaks has shared an image that revealed that Motorola has three new Motorola smartphones for the Edge lineup in development. The image shared on Twitter mentions the smartphones with “Sierra”, “Berlin”, “Berlin NA”, and “Kyoto”. According to reports from XDA-Developers, these devices will come soon and the “Kyoto” smartphone is quite interesting since it is reportedly coming with a 108MP primary camera.

Motorola Edge series will get Kyoto, Sierra and Berlin variants very soon
The Motorola Edge with Kyoto codename will have a 108MP main camera. That is the S5KHM2 module supplied from Samsung which is also found in the recently release Moto G60 smartphone. Samsung has democratized the 108MP resolution with this sensor as many companies are launching 108MP-equipped smartphones every month. Kyoto will join the list of many smartphones released in 2021 with this main camera. The main sensor aside, the smartphone will come with an 8MP camera, the Samsung S5k4h7. It can act as an ultrawide angle camera and as a macro camera. The third camera is a 2MP OmniVision which will be used for depth sensing. The front-facing camera is also from Omnivision, but the resolution isn’t determined accurately by the reports. It can either be a 16MP ov16a1q sensor or a 32MP ov32b sensor.
Despite the presence of this camera arrangement, Kyoto will not be the king of the family. Apparently, it will be the cheapest smartphone of the trio. The “Berlin” and “Sierra” will be more expensive. In fact, the duo of Motorola Edge smartphones is probably coming to succeed the last year’s Motorola Edge and Edge Plus. We expect more details to appear in the coming weeks.
