POCO returned from a long rest last year, but until the second half of the year, the company focused on mere rebrandings. This started to change with the arrival of the POCO X3 which was followed by the POCO M3. Both devices came with original designs and specs that weren’t based on other existing Redmi smartphones. The POCO X3 served as a revolutionary mid-range smartphone while the POCO M3 was one of the best offerings in the budget segment. Earlier this year, the company upgraded the POCO X3 series with a Pro variant featuring the Snapdragon 860 SoC. Now, the company will update its POCO M3 with a POCO M3 Pro variant, unlike the X3 Pro, the M3 will bring 5G and will sell as POCO’s cheapest 5G smartphone in the market.
In fact, the POCO M3 Pro 5G will be the first POCO mid-range smartphone to come with 5G connectivity. It will also bring a high-refresh-rate display with 90Hz, something that the vanilla M3 lacked. Under the hood, the new smartphone will carry a MediaTe Dimensity 700 SoC. It is based on a 7nm process and is one of the cheapest chipsets in the market offering 5G connectivity. Today, POCO shared another teaser revealing another key feature of the upcoming smartphone.
Gizchina News of the week
The smartphone will go official on May 19th. Today another teaser revealed that the POCO M3 Pro 5G will pack a 5,000mAh battery. The battery is smaller than the 6,000mAh found on the 4G variant. However, we can understand that the company had to cut some corners to bring 5G to a lower pricing point. Apart from the change in the battery capacity, the charging speed remains the same at 18W.
POCO M3 Pro 5G alleged specifications
The POCO M3 will also come with a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD with DynamicSwitch feature allowing it to change refresh rate between 30, 50, 60, or 90Hz depending on the content. Besides the new 5G chipset, the phone is coming with more RAM as well. The original POCO M3 was available in options with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of Internal Storage. We assume that Xiaomi will be adding one more variant with 6GB of RAM. The storage is said to be faster as well, we’re betting on UFS 2.2 for both storage options as the POCO M3 with 64GB came with UFS 2.1. The device will likely include microSD card support as well.
The camera department should remain the same with a 48MP main camera, a 2MP depth-sensing module, and a 2MP macro sensor. According to rumors, the device may come as a rebranded Redmi Note 10 5G and will run Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 straight out of the box.
