Recent reports from China claim that Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd. published a patent for “flexible screen module, terminal equipment, and shooting method”. The publication number is CN112839115A. The patent summary shows that the invention provides a flexible screen module, terminal equipment, and a shooting method.
Details of the patent
- The flexible screen includes a first display area and a second display area. The second display area includes a sub-area that hosts the camera assembly. The driving component is used to drive the flexible screen and the camera assembly to move synchronously. Thus, the second display area can easily switch between the first and second positions.
- Wherein, when the second display area is at the first position, the first display area becomes the front display area. At this point, the second display area will be the rear display. The camera assembly is used to obtain an image behind the flexible screen module.
- When the second display area is in the second position, the sub-area of the second display area becomes a part of the front display area. The camera assembly is used to obtain an image in front of the flexible screen module.
Gizchina News of the week
The patent abstract shows that this device can get almost 100% screen-to-body ratio under certain conditions. If the users do not need the front camera, then the display screen-to-body ratio will be almost 100%.
Xiaomi smartphone patent a retractable rotary camera
A recent exposure on China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), shows an innovative smartphone design from Xiaomi. The patent shows that this device does not come with the traditional front-facing camera. This will make it easier for smartphone manufacturers to release devices with a true full screen. There will be no need for a bezel, notch, water-drop, or even a punch-hole. To capture front images, the user will have to use a multi-module rear camera. For this to happen, there will be an uplift of the block holding the camera. It will not only rise, it will also 180 degrees before it ends up in the front part.
The images on the listing shows that the camera will have three components including a large centerpiece. On the bottom of the device, there is a SIM card slot as well as a USB Type-C port. There is no fingerprint sensor on the device thus it will probably be on the display. However, this is only a patent and like most patents, it may never see the light of day.
