Samsung, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi to release foldable smartphones soon

Foldable smartphones have already carved out their niche in the mobile industry. It is small in number and is still far from becoming widespread. But this does not mean that manufacturers will not continue to release mobile devices with a foldable design. In the third quarter, Samsung plans to show the third generation of its foldable smartphones. It will not be alone in this endeavor; a number of companies are also ready to show their creations.

Samsung, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi to release foldable smartphones soon

It was reported that Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are planning to release foldable phones in the third quarter of the year. Xiaomi already has the foldable Mi Mix Fold, which costs over $ 1,500. Now the company plans to release an affordable version that will cost less. We do not yet know what compromises the company had to make in order to reduce the price tag.

We also do not know what will be the new foldable devices from Oppo and Vivo. At the level of assumptions – Oppo will release a smartphone with a sliding display. The company showed a prototype of such a device at the end of last year. But, perhaps, Oppo will prefer a more classic version of a smartphone with a flexible display, because producing a notoriously expensive device with a “stretch” display may turn out to be a failure.

Oppo has become the most popular smartphone brand in China, ahead of Vivo, Huawei and Xiaomi

China is one of the largest and most competitive smartphone markets. It is reported that this year Oppo became the leader in smartphone sales in the Middle Kingdom, ahead of such Chinese giants as Vivo, Huawei and Xiaomi.

Oppo has increased its presence in China’s smartphone market to 21 percent, according to research firm Counterpoint Research. Vivo is close to it, which owns 20 percent of the market. The third position is shared by three companies at once. Huawei, Apple and Xiaomi each hold 16 percent. Counterpoint notes that Oppo has increased its sales in the China market by 26 percent over last year. It is also reported that more than 65 percent of all smartphones sold in China in the fourth quarter of 2020 support 5G.

Analysts suggest that Oppo has managed to achieve success with the release of the highly successful Reno 5 series of smartphones. They offer a wide range of functionality at a lower price than their predecessors. With this, Oppo has taken over the high-end affordable device market in China. The company’s position in the mid-price segment was strengthened by the successful A-series. In addition, the decline of Huawei played into the hands of Oppo.

Recall that previously Huawei was the undisputed leader of the Chinese mobile market, but since August last year, sales of the brand’s smartphones have been steadily declining. This stems from the American sanctions, which have protected the company from many in-demand technologies.
