Yesterday, Huawei officially unveiled the HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system. The company also released a couple of devices including smartwatches, tablets, stylus pens, keyboards, and smartphones. The new HarmonyOS 2.0 is pre-installed on watches, tablets, and mobile phones. For well-known reasons, Huawei’s new smartphones do not support 5G.
For those who may not know, Huawei can buy 4G chips from top chipmakers like Qualcomm and MediaTek. However, the U.S. ban will not allow the company to buy any product with links to 5G. However, the advantage of these new 4G smartphones from Huawei is that they are 300 yuan ($47) – 400 yuan ($63) cheaper.

Huawei’s new strategy is to release 4G devices to keep its smartphone business alive. However, so many people especially in China where its smartphone business thrives prefer 5G devices. Whether or not Huawei will make good sales with these smartphones remains to be seen. Nevertheless, it is a good try by the Chinese manufacturer and it may as well work out for the company.
