Last year, Xiaomi had to change its strategy to launch the Redmi Note 9 series. Rather than bringing these smartphones to China first, the company had to opt for India. After all, the Chinese market was facing the worst period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company launched the lineup composed of a Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. These devices were launched in global markets as Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note 9 Pro, respectively. The standard Redmi Note 9 came a couple of months later.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro series smartphones reached the market with an Android 10-based MIUI 11 update. Several months later, in November 2020, the global variant of the Pro Max, the Redmi Note 9 Pro, received the Android 11 based MIUI 12 update. Curiously, the Indian users didn’t get contemplated with the update by that time. This was very strange one time that both devices are pretty similar in hardware. Now, seven months later, Xiaomi has finally started rolling out Android 11 based MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. Unfortunately, it’s not the most updated version as MIUI 12.5 is already here and MIUI 13 is almost in the corner.
