14 years ago, sales of the first iPhone started

14 years ago, on June 29, 2007, sales of the original iPhone started. The smartphone was deprived of many functions inherent in competitors of that time, such as video shooting, the ability to install third-party applications, support for MMS and 3G cellular networks. However, this did not stop it from winning the hearts of users from all over the world, completely changing the rules of the game in the smartphone market and becoming the main invention of 2007 according to Time magazine.

The original iPhone was unveiled in January 2007. According to numerous legends, at the time of the presentation, there were only a few semi-working prototypes that could perform tasks only in a certain order, and a deviation from this order caused the device to malfunction.

The start of sales of the smartphone took place only six months after its presentation. By this time, Apple experts had managed to fix the critical problems of the first iPhone. The appearance of the device on the shelves caused a stir, which had not been caused before by the launch of a single smartphone or mobile phone. People took queues in front of Apple stores for several days, just to be able to be the first to buy the new product. They were not deterred by the sky-high cost of the device at that time – $ 499 for the basic version, which could boast of only a 4 GB drive. In the first 30 hours, Apple sold 270 thousand iPhones; and the company sold the first million copies in 74 days. Then Steve Jobs noted that it took the company almost two years to sell so many iPods.

The smartphone that changed the world

So, the original iPhone was housed in an aluminum case with a chrome bezel surrounding the bezel. Also, below the screen was the only Home button; that has survived to this day in the iPhone SE and affordable iPads. The processor used was the Samsung S3C6400 chipset, the clock frequency of which was limited to 416 MHz. The amount of RAM in the EDRAM standard was 128 MB. The storage capacity was 4, 8 or completely unimaginable for a smartphone of that time 16 GB. The 3.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 320 × 480 pixels had no air gap; which made a lasting impression on those who took an iPhone in their hands for the first time. Of course, one of the key features is the multi-touch capacitive sensor. The smartphone’s camera had a resolution of 2 megapixels and could not even shoot video.

In addition, in 2008, the original iPhone was replaced by the iPhone 3G; which received support for third-generation cellular networks, a simplified plastic case and a less beautiful screen with an air gap. It was it who became the first Apple smartphone officially presented on several markets. Apple has sold over a billion iPhones to date, which is the best example of the brand’s success.
