It was announced recently that OnePlus and Oppo are working on integrating the code source of the proprietary OxygenOS and ColorOS skins. Users will likely not see the impact of these changes. OnePlus notes that it now has a larger and more professional development team, as well as more research and development resources. The company said that OxygenOS will continue to be used as an operating system for smartphones available internationally. But in China, OnePlus devices will be sold with ColorOS preinstalled.

OnePlus hasn’t said anything specific about the visual changes coming to OxygenOS users, however, judging by the early beta versions of Android 12 for the OnePlus 9, they are coming soon. However, the main thing is that the company called a clear schedule of OS updates for branded smartphones. Flagship devices starting with OnePlus 8 will receive at least three updates to the Android version, and security updates will be released for at least four years. The Nord and Nord CE smartphones will receive two major operating system updates and three years of security patches. The most affordable Nord smartphones, starting with the N10 and N100, will receive one Android update and three years of security updates.
