Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi 5G smartphone sales hit $15 billion in Q1 2021

Since the commercialization of 5G, Chinese manufacturers have been releasing all sorts of 5G devices. As of now, 5G smartphones from Chinese manufacturers cost as low as $300. This means that a wide range of users can have access to 5G smartphones. According to Strategy Analytics, the sales of Chinese manufacturers’ Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi 5G smartphones hit $15 billion in the first quarter of this year. The 5G revenue of these three vendors alone is almost twice that of LTE in the same period.

The report pointed out that Chinese smartphone manufacturers are rapidly switching from 4G to 5G. As high-end equipment shifts to 5G, the LTE mobile phone market will shrink by half in Q1 of 2021. Strategy Analytics also claims that in Q1 2021, 5G revenue will increase by more than 500% annually. Apple leads in 5G shipments and revenue, while also leading in 4G LTE revenue.

In addition, in the top 10 global 5G revenue ranking, there are 7 Chinese manufacturers. Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo are all on the list. At present, Chinese manufacturers are actively targeting mid-to-high-end equipment and are closing the 5G ASP gap.

Samsung leads the general smartphone market Q1 2021

Strategy Analytics recently conducted research on the global smartphone market (including 5G smartphones) for the first quarter of 2021. The report shows that looking at the number of shipments; Samsung is currently the largest supplier of mobile devices in the world. According to the figures from the experts, the quarterly performance of the South Korean giant amount to 77 million smartphones shipment. Furthermore, the company controls almost a quarter of the market – 23% and its growth in annual terms is 32%. Despite successful sales of the iPhone 12, which saw Apple beat everyone else in the fourth quarter of last year; the first quarter of this year was not as successful for the Cupertino-based group. It is in second place with a market share of 17% and 57 million delivered smartphones. However, the iPhone 12 is a high-demand 5G smartphone. Closing the top three is Xiaomi, which has managed to increase the supply of its devices by 80% year on year. Its market share is at about 15% and in quantitative terms, it is 49 million devices.

The fourth and fifth positions belong to Oppo and Vivo with 38 million and 37 million smartphones, respectively, which allows them to take 11% of the market share. It is noteworthy that the top growth in the first quarter of this year belongs to Vivo – 85% on an annualized basis and this is the best indicator among all companies.
