Windows 11 release may be generating the biggest amount of buzz among Windows circles. However, the reality for the biggest part of users still is Windows 10. Fortunately, Microsoft is still working hard to make the last Windows version more stable. The operating system will still have a long time of support, which is good since Windows 11 seems to not be coming for everyone. Today, we brought news about a possible feature update coming for the operating system, apparently, it will fix certain issues related to the Game Mode.
The Windows 10 Game Mode should be increasing the performance in games. However, it seems to be doing otherwise. Recently, several Windows 10 users have complained of their otherwise-robust PC running into issues to do with dropping frame rates, stuttering, and generally wonky performance for several games. This is after a Windows update which effectively resulted in the Game Mode doing the opposite of it what is intended to do.
Players with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 are getting inconsistent frame rate on Windows 10 Game Mode
Players with cutting-edge, massively powerful GPUs like i.e. the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 have been suffering to run their favorite games at stable frame rates. The company rolled out a quick fix in this month’s Patch Tuesday update. Apparently, it fixed the issue for most players. However, it does not seems to be a fix that saves everyone as the company still plans to fix it once and for all.

Some users are still suffering from a painfully inconsistent frame rate. As per a report from PCGamer, several users discovered a workaround for this issue. They change the Power Plan to High Performance, however, this is anything but a definitive solution for the issue. Curiously, this does not seem to be an issue affecting current Windows 11 users. In fact, some testers even reported that the new OS offers a better performance in games. Of course, this can still change as the OS is still in a very early stage.
Windows apparently is addressing this update in the upcoming feature update (21H2). Hopefully, it will deliver a permanent fix for all users. Unfortunately, the update is still away from the big majority of users. Those who are suffering from inconsistent performance probably will still have problems for a long time. As aforementioned, the best way to deal with this situation, for now, is to keep the energy mode on performance.
It’s ironic to see that Windows 10 Game Mode is doing anything but enhancing the performance in games.
