Xiaomi Mi 12 will be equipped with LPDDR5X memory

Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra

As a global leader in the development of standards for the global microelectronics industry, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association has just announced the new JESD209-5B standard for “5th generation low power double rate” (LPDDR5) DRAM memory, which is LPDDR5X memory. LPDDR5X has three main changes. One of the changes is that the rate increases from 6400Mbps to 8533Mbps. Also, the TX/RX equalization improves signal integrity, and the new adaptive refresh management improves reliability. According to a new leak, the Xiaomi Mi 12 will launch with this new memory specification.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi Mi 12 will also use Qualcomm’s latest-generation flagship chip, the Snapdragon 898 (tentative name). If the Xiaomi Mi 12 uses this memory, it may be the first smartphone to use the LPDDR5X memory.

Snapdragon 898 speculations

It is worth noting that in addition to the upgrade of memory support, the performance of the Snapdragon 898 will also be greatly increased. Previous reports claim that this chip will adopt a 1+3+2+2 four-cluster architecture with a frequency of 3.09.  In it, the Kryo 780 super-large core is based on Cortex-X2, the Kryo 780 large core is based on Cortex-710, and the Kryo 780 energy-efficient large core is based on Cortex-510 (High frequency) / the Kryo 780 energy efficiency small core is based on Cortex-A510 (low frequency). The Cortex-X2/A710/A510 is ARM’s latest public version design based on a 64-bit v9 instruction set, replacing X1/A78/A55 respectively.

It is worth mentioning that the Snapdragon 898 process will also bring upgrades. Although it misses the legendary 3nm process, it will be built using Samsung and TSMC’s 4nm process. The overall power consumption and heat generation will be quite high though. The decline in performance due to heating is not very good for the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Thus, we expect Qualcomm to put in some effort on the Snapdragon 898

In addition to reports that the Xiaomi Mi 12 series will be among the first batch of Snapdragon 898 smartphones, this series will also support a 200MP camera. This smartphone should be the first device globally to use this sensor. According to reports, this sensor will also have a native 1-inch ultra-large bottom, which will be the largest in the industry. Of course, this device will support the 16-in-one pixel technology to achieve an equivalent shooting effect of a 12MP sensor. This means that on the basis of the original 1-inch outsole, the sensor has once again improved the amount of light and image capture capabilities. This should bring top-level shooting effects during the day and night.
