Enough with the talk already, let’s kickstart this weekly column.
Best Free Android Apps and Games of the Week [13th Edition]
1. SpeedSound
Last week, I came across this very useful speedometer application called SpeedSound. It’s not your simple speedometer app but it’s voice-based meaning it talks to you. Let’s assume you are doing your regular running or jogging on the streets with Bluetooth earbuds or headphones plugged in. SpeedSound will deliver your real-time speed through your headphones or earbuds.
you can use this app for various outdoor activities such as skateboarding, e-boards, horse riding, and whatnot. Apart from just being a voice-based speedometer, SpeedSound brings some more additional features to the table. For instance, you can set a max speed alarm and whenever you cross the limit, the app will let you know.
Other features include the ability to tweak the frequency of voice updates, changing speech-language or unit, play music and use SpeedSound at the same time, and more. There is a detailed summary graph as well that you can use to see your activities such as the max speed you’ve hit or your average speed.

2. Momento
Podcasts are getting increasingly popular especially because people are actually loving consuming content in the audio format. Furthermore, the ability to consume content while you’re doing something else like clearing is an added bonus. If you’re someone who loves to listen to podcasts, then you might greatly miss the ability to transcribe or clip important parts. Well, that’s where Momento comes into the play.
Using Momento, you can easily save favorite moments from any podcast. Basically, anytime you find something that is worth noting down, just use Momento to save that moment. The audio that you will save, Momento will convert them to texts. It’s basically a transcribing app but for podcasts. It works well with all the popular podcast apps or services such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, Castro, and more.
One thing that we thought the developers could add down the road is the ability to export those texts to some other apps or services such as Evernote, Notion, and more. Another good addition would be the cloud backup for all your saved moments. With that said, Momento is indeed a must-have app for those who listen to podcasts a lot.

3. Gesture
An Android application with a simple name that serves a simple yet very productive purpose. Developed by DogPoo (weird name, right?), Gesture allows you to perform shortcuts with custom gestures. There are already a plethora of apps that serve the same purpose. Gesture is a bit different in a way that is actually quite simple, minimal, and ad-free.
If you’re using this app, then to use the custom-made gestures, you need to drag the home button up. Doing that will showcase a popup where you will be able to draw the custom gestures. The command corresponding to the gesture will then automatically fire up. As per the description, the app for some reason doesn’t work on some Xiaomi smartphones. Sadly, we were unable to test that out.
With that said, Gesture is a very good application that manages to execute the simple purpose but with perfection.

4. Almighty Volume Keys
Ever thought of using Volume keys for something other than just controlling the volume? If so, then this particular app is designed especially for you. Almighty Volume Keys is a powerful remapper tool that allows you to remap the volume buttons of your smartphone.
For instance, you can assign a flashlight to the volume up key or maybe skip the music track to the long-press volume up key. You can even set double press or triple press for both volumes up or down keys. The number of remappings are limitless. Now you might be wondering what if I triple press the volume up key to execute a command but with that, the volume is also gonna change? That’s right!
Gizchina News of the week
Well, Almighty Volume Keys takes care of that as well. It will reset any volume change that will happen so you don’t need to worry about it. So, what are all the actions that you can perform using this app? Here’s the list of a few of many actions.

6. Flux (Beta)
While most Android smartphones come with a wallpaper app pre-installed, you might still want to install one from the Google Play Store. Flux is one such application that you might want to try out. The app is currently beta and in early access but it is still worth checking out. Throughout our usage, we didn’t find any major issues. In fact, the entire experience was quite stable.
When it comes to the look and feel, Flux is a very nice weather application with super cool widgets that looks good on any wallpaper. From the user experience point of view, Flux is just a killer app out there. To top things off, there are no annoying ads or popups which is always greatly appreciated. While weather apps are generally serving the same purpose, the user experience is what makes apps different from each other. That’s where Flux manages to shine.

7. The Actual Game Rescue – Pull the Pin
So, the recent game that we’re addicted to is weirdly named The Actual Game Rescue. You play as a princess who is angry and worried to figure out why the treasures are missing in the Kingdom of Jagat. In her journey, she finds a time rift open in a forest. A weird-looking spaceship emerges from the time rift. You along with another protagonist will fight the evil Goblin to recover all the lost treasures.
While the graphics might look quite retro, the gameplay is definitely not. You’re gonna enjoy playing The Actual Game Rescue on your Android smartphone. The game will throw challenging puzzles your way and of course, the difficulty will change progressively. Soon you’ll find yourself solving complex and challenging puzzles. Another good aspect of this game is no forced advertisements. If you don’t want to see ads, then you will not. The developer will not try to force these ads on you.
The game has around 57 levels and in no way, you’ll find them repetitive or boring. The developers have promised to bump the number to more than 120 by the end of August. Well, it’s nice meaning you’re in for a good treat. With that said, if you love solving puzzles, then you’re gonna enjoy playing this title.

8. Prison Run and MiniGun
It’s time for the second Android game that we’re having fun playing. It’s called Prison Run and MiniGun. It is a retro puzzle platformer that comes with modern mechanics and gameplay. As the name suggests, the game takes place in a prison and you play as one of the prisoners. During the events of the Hot Guns Team, some prisoners decided to escape. You guessed it right! You’re one of those prisoners.
Your goal is to break yourself free and overcome all the challenges that come your way. To do that, you’re gonna use your skills and of course, the guns. If you want to play using controllers, then you can do so as well. The game supports Bluetooth controllers like a charm. It is worth noting that this game is currently at the initial release. We tried it and enjoyed playing it.
From the gameplay to retro graphics, you’re gonna love every single aspect of this title.
