Counterpoint: Samsung is the foldable smartphone “king”

The foldable smartphone market has been growing consistently over the past two years. As of now, not many smartphone manufacturers have foldable phones. Samsung and Huawei are the earliest companies to release foldable phones. However, with the situation with Huawei presently, Samsung clearly has a lead in the foldable smartphone market. Samsung is one of the few manufacturers to mass-produce and sell foldable smartphones globally. The South Korean manufacturer is now dominating the foldable smartphone market.

According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung will occupy 88% of the market share of the foldable market in 2021. Its market size is expected to increase by 2 times over the same period last year. The latest report from the research agency shows that Samsung will be an absolute “king” in this market. Presently, Samsung does not have a strong opponent in the foldable smartphone market. It is worth noting that Samsung will launch two foldable smartphones on August 11. The company will unveil the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.

Gizchina News of the week

According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has an internal screen of 7.55 inches and an external screen of 6.23 inches. This foldable smartphone will also be the first Samsung phone to use an under-screen camera.

Compared with the previous generation products, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 external screen will be larger. This will greatly improve the inconvenience of the narrowness of the external screen. With this design, this smartphone will be more like an ordinary phone when it’s not folded. This also improves the utilization of the external screen. The biggest upgrade of this device is its compatibility with Samsung’s S Pen stylus. This device will also be the first Samsung foldable smartphone to support a built-in S Pen.

Samsung Galaxy Fold3 S-Pen listing

An FCC file shows that the S Pen Pro is compatible with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. In addition, it will also be compatible with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Note20 duo, Note10 Lite, Tab S7 series, and Tab S6. However, it appears that another upcoming foldable phone, Galaxy Z FLip3 will not support the S Pen. It is not on the list of compatible devices. The S Pen Pro itself will be charged via USB-C and has a 100 mAh battery with a rated voltage of 5.0V. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 may also support reverse wireless charging of the stylus, similar to the way the Galaxy Tab series works. This foldable phone may not have a dedicated S Pen slot.
