The COVID-19 pandemic has been ravaging the world since the last year. However, in the last year’s counterpart, when everything we had to contain the virus was the self-isolation measures, now we have vaccines. These vaccines protect us from all the current variants like the recently spotted Delta. However, there are certain barriers preventing the full vaccination not everything is feeling safe to get a vaccine. For that reason, many governments are experimenting with new incentives to push citizens to get vaccinated against the virus. In the United States, local governments are trying all sorts of things including cold hard Cash. President Joe Bide, for example, even suggested every citizen should get $100 to get a COVID vaccine. Interestingly, Washington, D.C, is giving a step further in a bid to incentive young people. The government will give free Apple AirPods for teens getting the vaccine.
Washington, D.C., Mayor’s office has just announced a new incentive program geared towards teens. Any person aged 12 to 17 can get a set of free AirPods in exchange for getting their first shot. The only stipulation, besides the age, is that you must bring a parent or guardian with you. There are three sites within the city limits where the vaccines will be applied. The sites are Brookland MS, Sousa MS, and Johnson MS.

Interestingly, the program is quite open and does not require you to exactly meet the age conditions. As per the report, the program is open to students as well as long they are aged between 18 and 21 and also are pursuing a high school diploma. Those meeting these requirements will also get a pair of free Airpods.
In addition to the AirPods, students have the chance to win a $25,000 scholarship
If by any chance, you’re not interested in a set of AirPods, for example in cases where you already have your own set, then there are some alternatives. The local government will allow you to pass that gift and get a $51 gift card instead. Moreover, you can also enter to win a $25,000 scholarship. So if you’re an unvaccinated teen in the D.C region, then a new set of AirPods or a gift card may be a great incentive to getting your shot right now.
The United States government did a good job by vaccinating its people in the first months of the year. However, with the advent of the Delta variant, it is pushing the vaccination further to make sure that all its people are protected until the end of the year.
