Although the performance of the Snapdragon 888 is very strong, it has its own shortcomings. This chip generates a lot of heat thus most manufacturers adopt a frequency reduction strategy. This will keep the heat in check but unfortunately will significantly reduce the actual experience. Everyone is now looking forward to the 4nm process Snapdragon 898 SoC which will arrive at the end of the year. We have reasons to believe that this chip should address the embarrassing situation of the Snapdragon 888 heating. According to recent reports, there is already a large wave of new sm8450 (Snapdragon 898) smartphones in development. The tentative schedule for the current first model will be mid-December. According to @DCS, the first Snapdragon 898 model will likely be in the Xiaomi camp. If this is the case, then the Xiaomi Mi 12 will certainly be the first smartphone to use this chip.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 details
According to previous news, the CPU of Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will use a three-cluster architecture. It will include a very large Cortex-X2 core, a large Cortex-A710 core, and a small Cortex-A510 core. All these new designs will run under the ARM v9 Pure 64-bit system. The design performance of Cortex-X2 is about 16% higher than that of X1. However, after Qualcomm’s tuning, its performance is much better. As of now, we do not have any information on the exact performance result of this chip. By design, the AnTuTu running points of this chip may exceed one million for the first time.
Xiaomi Mi 12 speculations
In addition, the popular high-quality screens on Xiaomi Mi 11 series will have some more upgrades. The Xiaomi Mi 12 series will come with an LTPO adaptive refresh rate screen. This feature will realize an adaptive refresh rate adjustment function between 1 – 120Hz. This feature will also bring an automatic adjustment of the display. This means that when a user activates a high-demanding game, the refresh rate of the display automatically sets to 120Hz. However, when the user is on a social app, it reduces the refresh rate significantly. This will ultimately help in the power consumption of the device.
The original plan for the Xiaomi Mi 12 shows that it will support 120W wired fast charging and 100W wireless charging. However, due to the implementation of the new wireless charging regulations, wireless fast charging above 50W will be prohibited. Considering the embargo on wireless charging above 50W, Xiaomi Mi 12 may focus on wired fast charging to make up for the wireless restrictions.
