Vivo Y21 launched in India with Helio P35 and 5,000mAh battery

Vivo Y21

Vivo is well known for its smartphones with innovative camera solutions, and premium design. However, nowadays, the company has a lot more to offer for the mid-range and low-end segments. The Vivo Y-series brings competitive specifications and decent prices. Today, the Chinese brand is bringing the Vivo Y21 to the Indian market. The handset packs a large display, a MediaTek chipset, and a huge battery with fast charging. Without further ado, let’s dive into the specifications.

Vivo Y21 Specifications and features

The Vivo Y21 uses the traditional waterdrop notch as most of Vivo’s mid-range smartphones. The waterdrop cutout serves as a home for a modest 8 MP camera which should provide decent selfies and will also be enough for video calls. Talking about the display, it’s a standard IPS LCD with an HD+ screen resolution of 1,600 x 720 pixels. The biggest downside is the standard 60 Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, we have the aging Helio P35 Octa-Core chipset. Unfortunately, this chip carries eight archaic Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.3 GHz. The GPU is a PowerVR GE8320 and the whole chip is built with the 12 nm process. Further, the processing power comes alongside 4 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the device is available in variants with 64 GB or 128 GB. You can expand both of them using a micro SD card.

In terms of optics, the Vivo Y21 packs a simple dual camera setup. It consists of a 13 MP primary camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. There are certain photography features provided with Android 11-based Funtouch OS 11. However, we can’t expect much from a simple setup like this one. Anyway, the device clearly is oriented towards the low-end segment.

Keeping the lights on, Vivo brings a 5,000 mAh battery which clearly is the biggest pro in this handset. It will charge with 18W fast-charging which is modest but is better than the 10W or 15W provided by some companies. In terms of dimensions, the device measures 164 x 76 x 8 mm and weighs 182 grams. It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that sits alongside the power button.
