This morning, Samsung officially released the world’s first 200MP smartphone camera. According to the South Korean manufacturer, this mobile sensor will commence shipment later this year. This means that we may see a smartphone with this camera as early as this year. From the speculations so far, the Xiaomi Mi 12 series will be the first to use this 200MP camera. After all, Xiaomi has been very aggressive with the high pixel cameras in recent years. While some reports show 192MP, others claim that this device will use a 200MP sensor. However, there is a new report that has a different claim.
According to popular Weibo leakster, @DCS, the flagship Xiaomi Mi 12 will use a 50MP main camera. This information is coming from two engineering models (Xiaomi models) which are suspected to be the Mi 12 series. These models come with super-large sensors that support 1920fps super slow motion. The main camera of these models is the same. However, there may be differences in the secondary camera such as telephoto and wide-angle sensor.

Furthermore, the engineering model of the Xiaomi Mi 12 series is currently in testing. This smartphone will come with a triple main camera system. Interestingly, all the triple main sensors will be a 50MP shooter. One of these cameras will be a super-large sensor, the ultra-wide-angle lens is also a high-quality 50MP lens, and the periscope telephoto lens is also a 50MP high-quality lens.
On the whole, the Xiaomi Mi 12 will bring good performance in all aspects of the camera department. The main camera-level telephoto lens can bring a much stronger long-distance shooting experience than the previous models. The existence of the periscope lens will no longer be a “tasteless” function.
Xiaomi Mi 12 speculations
The Xiaomi Mi 12 series will come with an LTPO adaptive refresh rate screen. This feature will realize an adaptive refresh rate adjustment function between 1 – 120Hz. This feature will also bring an automatic adjustment of the display. This means that when a user activates a high-demanding game, the refresh rate of the display automatically sets to 120Hz. However, when the user is on a social app, it reduces the refresh rate significantly. This will ultimately help in the power consumption of the device. The original plan for the Xiaomi Mi 12 shows that it will support 120W wired fast charging and 100W wireless charging. However, due to the implementation of the new wireless charging regulations, wireless fast charging above 50W will be prohibited. Considering the embargo on wireless charging above 50W, Xiaomi Mi 12 may focus on wired fast charging to make up for the wireless restrictions.
