Over the past few years, there has been significant development in the smartphone industry. One aspect that got more attention is the display. In order to achieve a true full-screen display, manufacturers had to use different solutions. We have seen the designs like the notch, water-drop, punch-hole, pop-up, magnetic slide, under-display, and so on. All these designs have one goal, to eliminate the space that the front camera occupies. The most recent of these is the under-screen camera technology and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 uses this solution. However, this solution comes with its own shortcomings. Thus, there are reports that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 series will not use the under-screen technology.
According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will come with a punch-hole camera solution. This upcoming series will have three models, Galaxy S22 Standard Edition, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The screen size of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is 6.8 inches while that of the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus will remain the same as their predecessors. As of now, the specific details of this series are still under wraps.

However, the emphasis here is that all three models will not use the under-screen camera technology. As of now, the under-screen camera technology of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is not mature enough. It is a wise choice for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series to give up the under-screen camera. After all, the Galaxy S series is Samsung’s heavyweight flagship, Samsung can not afford to use immature technology on this mainstream flagship series.
Under-screen camera technology is not mature
As of now, the under-screen camera technology is for smartphones that have a special emphasis. For instance, the Galaxy Z Fold3 emphasizes the foldable design. Thus, it can afford to use the immature under-screen camera. Also, Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 which also uses the under-screen camera technology emphasizes design. However, for a mainstream flagship like the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, this technology is not ideal.
From the speculations so far, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be available in Exynos and Snapdragon versions. This is the usual practice of the South Korean manufacturer. While markets like the U.S. and China will get the Snapdragon model, Europe and other markets will get the Exynos model. The Exynos version will have the Exynos 2200 chip. Reports so far show that Exynos 2200 will give the Snapdragon 898 a head-on battle. We expect the Samsung Galaxy S22 series to debut at the beginning of next year.
