Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, releases a plethora of devices every year. According to a recent report from @DCS, two Xiaomi smartphones with the “sm8250” chip are in development. The positioning of these smartphones is mid-to-high-end and mid-range. Furthermore, the blogger revealed that a Redmi mid-range smartphone with MediaTek’s chip is on the way. However, it is not clear whether this device is a Note or another series.
The sm8250 is the code name for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. Pseudo flagships like the Redmi K40 and Xiaomi Mi 10S uses this chip. The Snapdragon 870 is built with a 7nm process. The CPU includes an A77 (3.19GHz) large core, three A77 (2.42GHz) large cores, and four A55 (1.8GHz) small cores. Other aspects are consistent with the Snapdragon 865+, and the 5G baseband also uses X55 5G.
During last year’s “Double 11” sales, Redmi launched a special version of the Redmi K30S. With its super high-cost performance, this model has a lot of fans. At that time, it became one of the best choices for the 3,000 yuan ($464) price tag. Not long ago, a new model which is suspected to be the Redmi K40S appeared online.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi will normalize the 50MP camera
No doubt, Xiaomi is a major force to reckon with in the smartphone market. The Chinese manufacturer is always looking to stuff its smartphones with a record-breaking performance. The company was at the forefront with the 48MP, 64MP, and 108MP cameras. The company has also been the first to use flagship processors like the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
This year, the company can reach another milestone with the upcoming 200MP sensor. After the company hits 200MP, it should begin to install higher megapixel sensors in lower models. According to DCS , Xiaomi will be a bit prudent even after hitting the 200MP mark. The company will rely on a 50MP sensor, which will become a regular in its mid-range models. As of now, we can not tell if the company will stick to Samsung or Sony’s sensors. If we are to look at our crystal balls, then we can say it should be the Sony IMX766. This is a 1/5-inch sensor that will be an alternative to the 64MP Sony IMX686. It has larger pixels that allow the capturing of more light. This is specifically useful when taking images in a low-light environment. Redmi 10 seems to be the first in the galaxy of Xiaomi devices with a 50MP sensor. In the coming years, the company will begin to massively install such a sensor in its devices.
