The flagship iPhone 13 series have been released and there have been multiple reports regarding this series. These smartphones are currently on presale. As of now, millions of units have been sold already. Nevertheless, Apple will be very happy to capture some new users. Relative to the iPhone 12 series, the iPhone 13 series has some salient upgrades in the processor, battery, notch, 5G baseband, and the starting price. However, for some Android fans, the iPhone 13 is still not a flagship to consider. This is because there are some “basic” features that this series is missing. Before we go into the five reasons why Android users will not buy the iPhone 13 series, let us look at the features of the iPhone 13 series.
iPhone 13 series details
The Apple iPhone 13 Mini comes with a 5.4-inch display while the iPhone 13 uses a 6.1-inch screen. Both use an OLED panel, and there is an aluminum frame between two slabs of glass. As for the iPhone 13 Pro, it sports a 6.1-inch OLED screen, while its bigger sibling (Pro Max) comes with a 6.7-inch OLED display. Under the hood, the iPhone 13 series comes with the Apple A15 Bionic processor. This chip still uses a 5nm process and has a 6-core CPU. But as Apple proves, it’s the “fastest CPU in a smartphone,” up to 50% faster than the competition. The GPU performance has been improved by 30%. Also, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max come with a starting 128GB native storage. But there are 256GB and 512GB versions as well. And what’s surprising, there is a 1TB model for the most demanding users. Apple is offering 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants for the lower-end models.
1. iPhone 13 series display
Make no mistake about this, the iPhone 13 series comes with a great display like other iPhones. Its OLED screens are one of the best in the industry and they look outstanding. Also, they do not lose their “functionality” under bright sunlight and they now support the 120Hz ProMotion screen technology. We understand that this has been available for Android smartphones for a long time. But Apple likes bringing “tested” features to its iPhones. And now, it arrives at the iPhone.
However, the problem for Android users here is that starting from the iPhone X, Apple has used five generations of OLED screens, but still does not support the display of the screen clock, battery, and notifications.
2. Charging power & wireless reverse charging
Android users are already used to high charging power as well as wireless reverse charging. However, these are features that iPhones may not be getting any time soon. As of now, the highest charging power in the Android camp is 120W. Furthermore, the Android camp also has up to 50W wireless fast charging and up to 10W wireless reverse charging. What do we have on the iPhone 13?
Gizchina News of the week
Well, the top model iPhone 13 Pro max supports 20W wired fast charging. This flagship also supports 15W MagSafe wireless charging and 7.5W Qi magnetic fast wireless charging. We can see that there is no reverse wireless charging.
One of the iPhone’s biggest competitors is the Galaxy series. The latest Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with a 25W fast charging capacity. This flagship also supports 15W Qi/PMA wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. We can see that in terms of charging capacity, the iPhone 13 and Galaxy S21 are basically the same. However, the Galaxy S21 has an edge over the iPhone 13 with its 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
The likes of Xiaomi are already at 10W reverse wireless charging and 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi is at 50W because of the restriction in China. The Chinese manufacturer actually has a 100W wireless charging technology. However, the Chinese government considers wireless charging above 50W unsafe.
3. On-screen fingerprint sensor
Apple is quite comfortable with its FaceID which was just enough until the advent of the coronavirus pandemic. Now that people are forced to move around with a face mask and it is unsafe to keep touching the mask because you want to unlock your smartphone, FaceID is not really a cool feature. However, at the moment, here is where the iPhone 13 is at. There is no fingerprint sensor so FaceID remains the only Biometric feature. For Apple fanboys, no problem…however, you can be sure that Android users will not find this interesting
4. USB Type-C interface
As of today, iPhones are about the only smartphones that do not use the USB charging interface. This makes the iPhone kinda odd to non-iPhone users. After series of rumors and speculations that the iPhone 13 series will use a USB Type-C interface, this series is still stuck with the Lightning interface. In fact, it doesn’t seem like Apple will change this anytime soon. To make matters worse, the iPhone 13 series does not come with a charger in the box. This means that users will have to buy the charger separately after buying the iPhone. Of course, this is not a situation that Android users will like.
5. Notch design
Since the release of the iPhone X back in 2017, Apple has been using the same design year-in-year-out. It is important to note that many Android users do not like the notch design. The fact that Apple has not been innovative in terms of design is a problem. Although the front notch of the iPhone 13 has been reduced by 20% it is still a far cry from other solutions. The punch-hole or even the under-screen technology gives the display more excellent appearance than the notch design. However, there is news that the iPhone 14 will ditch the notch design for the punch-hole screen design, As of now, Apple is carrying out research and development of the under-screen camera technology. Nevertheless, we should not expect the release of this technology anytime soon. We know that Apple usually waits for perfection before the company releases any feature.
Conclusion
The iPhone 13 series no doubt is very attractive. The price is also another interesting part of this series. However, this series does not have what it takes to capture Android users. Maybe the iPhone 14 will attract more Android users but most likely not the iPhone 13 series.
