In the Android 11 system, Google added an automatic reset permission function for apps. This feature is for apps that have been dormant for several months. Usually, these dormant apps may still run in the background thereby consuming space and data of users. The automatic reset feature disables these dormant apps so that they will no longer run in the background. The automatic permission reset function has always been unique to devices running Android 11. However, according to Android official blog, Google will bring this function to older devices with Android 6.0 and above.
Starting from December, if your smartphone or tablet is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above, and you can access Google App and services, then it will support App automatic reset permissions. This feature will be enabled for any app that targets/support Android 11. For older apps that does not support Android 11, users can manually enable this feature through device settings.
However, there are some exceptions to the workability of this feature. If users expect an app to work in the background without interacting with the application, developers can ask the user to prevent the system from resetting their app’s permissions. The main use cases are listed here.

Android phone 5G AP back-end test shipments will drop in Q4
There is currently a decline in chip demand from smartphone manufacturers in mainland China. As a result, packaging and testing plants in Taiwan region predict that the shipments of AP back-end testing for 5G Android phones will decline. This decline will take place mainly in the quarter of 2021. For MediaTek, its test demand for 5G APs using 7nm process in the fourth quarter will drop by 10%-20%. According to previous reports, related chip suppliers may slightly reduce shipments during the quarter.
Due to the earlier large-scale stockpiling, mobile phone suppliers in mainland China still have enough 5G AP inventory. The sales outlook for the fourth quarter is still uncertain. However, Apple iPhone 13 series will probably still gain market momentum. The packaging and testing plant may still obtain new 5G AP test orders, but it may have to wait until the first quarter of next year at the earliest.
In fact, according to MediaTek’s previous estimates, despite TSMC’s strong foundry support, starting from the second quarter of 2021, shipments of mid-to-high-end 5G APs manufactured at its 7/6nm node will decline slightly quarter by quarter. According to sources, Qualcomm’s order shipments from TSMC have begun to increase significantly, but its orders from Samsung Electronics in the fourth quarter are expected to be lower than the second quarter.
