Honor Magic X Could Compete With Huawei Mate X2 DNA

Honor Magic X foldable phone launch

The much-awaited Honor Magic X foldable phone could go toe-to-toe with Huawei Mate X2 DNA if rumors making the rounds online prove to be true. The foldable phone has been floating around the rumor mill for a long time. Moreover, it has been subject to multiple leaks. The word on the street is that Samsung’s recently unveiled foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have been received well. However, the South Korean tech company will reportedly face a big challenge soon.

Both Huawei and Xiaomi are trying to attract more consumers with their Mate X2 and MIX Fold non-clamshell style devices, respectively. While these devices are currently available only in China, they could arrive in the global markets in the next few months. Furthermore, Huawei’s former subsidiary, Honor could be gearing up to join the competition with its own foldable device dubbed, the Honor Magic X. If the phone hits the store shelves in regions where Honor phones are already available, it is likely to present a challenge to Samsung.

Honor Magic X, Huawei Mate X2 DNA Likely To Lock Horns

Although Honor has admitted that it is working on a foldable phone, it is highly unlikely that the company will be focusing on it at the moment. Moreover, the company is still facing the impact of its split from Huawei. Even if Honor recovers from its former parent company’s issues with the United States, there is a slew of other things it needs to iron out. For instance, it needs to address a new concern growing in the United States.

Alternatively, Honor might decide to launch a niche foldable phone to prove that it is capable of facing all challenges. A tipster on Weibo claims that Honor will launch its purported foldable handset in the fourth quarter. Aside from that, the leaker claims that it will carry the Magic X moniker. Regrettably, details about the new foldable device are still scarce. However, the device will compete against the likes of the Huawei Mate X2.

Other Speculations

To recall, the Huawei Mate X2 has been considered by some reports as good as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2. Nevertheless, there will be some notable differences between the Honor Magic X and the Huawei Mate X2 DNA. One key difference between the two devices could be the software. Considering that the Honor is no longer associated with Huawei, the company will be able to provide Google Play applications and services on its foldable phone.

Huawei’s custom OS, on the other hand, has been running on foldable for a longer time. It is still unclear how far Honor will be able to go with its new Google-backed foldable phone. The word on the street is that the Honor device will adopt a foldable clamshell design. This will be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Noted tipster Digital Chat Station has reiterated this speculation in a Weibo post. The phone could target female consumers and carry a steep price tag of around 10,000 RMB (about $1550).
