Redmi is getting set to launch a cost-effective Snapdragon 870 SoC

Redmi K50 series

Chinese manufacturer, Redmi, is getting set to unveil the Redmi Note 11 series in a few hours. However, this will not be the only smartphone that this company will launch this year. According to popular Weibo leakster, @DCS, Redmi will also unveil a new model with Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip in the future. Considering that we still have two months to the end of the year, this device will most likely arrive this year.  Presently, the Redmi K40 is the most recent Redmi device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. This smartphone comes with a 1999 yuan ($312) starting price which is very competitive.

Unfortunately, the specific name of the Redmi model with the Snapdragon 870 is still under wraps. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 is a flagship processor, however, its positioning is slightly inferior to Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 888 Plus. Thus, there are speculations that this device will be a mid-to-high-end smartphone probably in the K series.

In the second half of last year, Redmi launched the K30S Extreme Edition, which comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 flagship processor. Therefore, the new device with Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor may be a new product of the K series. The possibility that this device will be the Redmi K40S can not be ruled out.

Despite the report about this device, all focus presently is on the Redmi Note 11 series which will arrive later today. The Redmi Note 11 series is Xiaomi’s latest mid-range series and it will be official on October 28th. In all honesty, everything (except maybe the processor) about this smartphone series is flagship-grade. The design, AMOLED display, 4500 mAh battery that supports 120W fast charge, 108MP main camera, X-linear motor, JBL tuned speakers are all flagship quality. This new mid-range series will have three models – Note 11, the Pro model, and the Pro+ model

There is already information that the Redmi Note 11 series will come with a Samsung AMOLED display. According to Lu Weibing, anyone that prefers an LCD display can opt for the Redmi Note 10 Pro.

Judging from the available information so far, the Note 11 display will support a 120Hz refresh rate. This display will also support a 360Hz touch sampling rate. This means that the Redmi Note 11 series will offer players a faster and more accurate display. Also, its response speed to games will also be quite good.  Furthermore, the punch-hole on the front of this device is also quite good. Redmi only reserved a 2.9mm aperture for the selfie shooter. This ensures that the user will not block the camera in daily use. It also gives the device a premium appearance.
