It seems that Apple has hired Tesla’s former Autopilot software director Christopher Moore, according to a report by Bloomberg. The exec will report to Stuart Bowers, who himself was once a Tesla employee.
For those curious, Apple has been working on its self-driving car for around 5 years, which goes by the codename ‘Project Titan’. The leadership and employees seem keen to get this project out the door sooner than later.
What Does this Signing Mean for Project Titan and Apple?
Moore is famous for the controversies he had with CEO Elon Musk, since the former would usually rebut the claims made by the CEO, with one particular instance being in relation to Level 5 Autonomy, with Moore stating that Musk’s claim of Tesla reaching this level of autonomy in a couple of years was unrealistic.
As of the time of writing, knowledge in relation to Apple’s self-driving software is bleak at best, with the Cupertino giant running a few prototype versions of its autonomous cars in California, with the system reportedly relying on LiDAR sensors and video cameras.
A setback did occur earlier this year, with former lead Doug Field jumping ship to Ford. As of the time of writing this article, it seems likely that Apple will find a partner to build the car based on the design from Apple, with previous reports in June stating that the company was looking for the battery manufacturer for the Apple Car.
Gizchina News of the week
Foxconn, known for being one of the largest iPhone assemblers has been keen on becoming a car contract company, but there has been no concrete evidence to suggest that these two might work together on this new Apple Car.
What Else is the Cupertino Giant Working on?
In other Apple news, the newer iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models could sport new OLED panels. The Cupertino-based tech giant will reportedly adopt a new screen technology that would deliver more brightness than the company’s current tablet and laptop models. An earlier report indicated that the iPad line products could oust LCD panels in favor of mini LED.
Regrettably, the new display panel was available only on the iPad Pro 12.7-inch model. The iPad Pro 11-inch version, on the other hand, continued to feature an LCD screen.
A report indicated that Apple will be using mini LED displays on its iPad Pro series and the new MacBook Air in 2022. Now, more shreds of information about the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models’ display have surfaced online.
