South Korean giant Samsung has been known for leading the market of foldables for quite some time, starting off a couple of years ago with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and 1st gen Z Flip. Now, the company has been enjoying the success of the latest Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.
It seems however that Samsung is hopeful for more in 2022, as Korean publication The Elec is reporting that the manufacturer will be stepping up the production of its 2022 foldable handsets.
Is Samsung Ramping Up Production for the Galaxy Z Fold 4?
To be specific, the publication claims that Samsung will plan on producing 2.9 million Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphones and a whopping 6.9 million Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones from Q3 of 2022, adding up to a staggering 9.8 million units. The Elec cites Samsung’s 2022 shipment plan for this bit of information.
If this is indeed true, it will be a major improvement from 2020, with news suggesting that Samsung produced 2.5-3 million Galaxy Z Fold 3 units and 3.5-4 million Galaxy Z Flip 3 units amounting to around 6-7 million foldables.
What this means is that Samsung will be betting its chips on foldables, especially the Galaxy Z Flip 4 model, which seems to be gearing up to carry the burden of Samsung’s increased sales target, double the projected volume for 2022.
What Else is the Company Working on?
Gizchina News of the week
In other Samsung news, back in the last week, Samsung has rolled out the fourth One UI 4 beta for the Galaxy S21 flagships. The update program is flowing smoothly and maybe it is really close to reaching a stable status.
According to a company’s spokesperson, the last week’s update was the final one. So, we can conclude that the next firmware update for the Galaxy S21, S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra will be the stable update. However, it’s impossible to determine when exactly this update will reach the devices.
As we said before, the “next package” will probably come in the form of the official firmware. Apparently, any last-minute bugs will have to wait until the stable release to be addressed. Of course, users will keep testing and reporting issues with the fourth beta for a long time.
One UI 4 for those unaware, is the latest iteration of Samsung’s firmware skin. It will bring major features based on Android 12, including the wallpaper-based theming engine.
There will also be some nice improvements with the firmware to make the devices even smoother. Samsung has greatly improved its firmware in comparison to its times with Touchwiz.
