In the second half of this year, Google officially released the official version of the Android 12. At present, the developer’s version of the Android 12 is available for many smartphones. However, the first set of Android 12 smartphones use Qualcomm chips. The likes of Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, and others have Android 12 and they all use Qualcomm processors. Since they are flagships, they use either the Snapdragon 888 or Snapdragon 888+. For this reason, there are speculations that it may be difficult to adapt MediaTek chips to Android 12. However, today, MIUI engineers responded to the speculations to clear all doubts.
MIUI engineers said that Google gives Qualcomm and MediaTek code ahead of time before the official release so that the platform can prepare in advance. They claim that not long after the release, smartphone manufacturers get the Android 12 platform. Thus, they can start working on the new system as soon as they want.
However, there is a reason why Snapdragon smartphones tend to get Android 12 faster than MediaTek’s. According to MIUI engineers, Qualcomm has multiple teams working in parallel. Thus, these teams will deliver to all series almost at the same time. MediaTek on the other hand delivers in batches. This is why there is a delay for some processors. Some of these processors are in the second or third batch of upgrades.

From the perspective of manufacturers, batch upgrades are also an inevitable choice. There are two reasons. One is that there is not enough manpower to develop at the same time, and the other is that it can avoid the same problem on multiple platforms. This reduces the financial strain as well as the impact of the issue.
Snapdragon chips have more flagship smartphones
Looking at the number of Android 12 flagships in the market today, there are more Snapdragon models than MediaTek’s. Like we all know with software updates, flagship smartphones tend to get new updates before other models. This means that as soon as a new update is available, there is an urgent need to adapt. Since Qualcomm has multiple models using its flagship processors, there is a real need for multiple teams working on the system simultaneously. If Qualcomm becomes slow with software updates, it may lose some of its customers.
MediaTek has much of the mid-range and entry-level smartphones. Owners of these devices do not expect to get major updates immediately after their release. Thus, MediaTek has a couple of months to work on new major updates. As such, the company may not really need multiple teams working simultaneously.
