American chip manufacturing giant, Qualcomm, has since officially announced that the Snapdragon Technology Summit will hold from November 30 to December 2, 2021. Not surprisingly, Qualcomm will launch a new generation of flagship mobile processors at this summit. Previous reports show that the code name of Qualcomm’s new-generation flagship mobile platform is sm8450. Furthermore, there have been speculations that the name of this chip will be Snapdragon 898. However, it appears that this will not be the case.
According to recent reports, Qualcomm will be adopting a new naming system for its flagship processors. Popular Chinese Weibo tech blogger, @DCS claims that the name of sm8450 may be “Snapdragon 8 gen1”. In a similar report, @iceuniverse also claims that the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 will launch as Dimensity 9000.
Back to Qualcomm, the “gen1” means Generation 1, which is the abbreviation for the first generation. Some game consoles and Intel processor core display architectures will use similar naming methods. If the news is true, then this means that Qualcomm may abandon the past digital naming method.

Snapdragon 898 SoC on GeekBench
The Snapdragon 898 SoC (Snapdragon 8 gen1) will use Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process. In addition, this chip will use a 1+3+4 three-cluster architecture design. The super-large core is Cortex X2, and the main frequency hit 3.0GHz. Also, the main frequency of the large core is 2.5GHz, and the main frequency of the small core is 1.79GHz. The graphic card is the Adreno 730 and X65 baseband (downlink 10Gbps). In terms of performance, Snapdragon 8 gen1 is said to be about 20% higher than Snapdragon 888.
The Snapdragon 8 gen1 has a single-core running score of about 1300 and a multi-core running score of about 4000. This time Samsung’s device only has a single-core 1211 and a multi-core 3193, which is a huge difference in multi-core results. An earlier Weibo leak shows that the Snapdragon 898 (Snapdragon 8 gen1) will be 20 times faster than its predecessor.
At present, there is not much specific information about the device. However, there are speculations that it may come with a watered-down version of the Snapdragon 898 (Snapdragon 8 gen1). The performance will be lower than the flagship version, but for tablet devices, the performance is sufficient to support daily use. The emphasis on tablets is not on the processor. The display and battery are probably of more importance for tablets than the processor. However, this is relative as users will have different preferences.
The first batch of devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will hit the road around mid-December. Most of the leaks so far are of smartphones. This is the first report of a tablet that will use this flagship processor.
