Earlier today, Cupertino giant Apple announced its new “Self Service Repair” program that will aim to let users complete their own repairs in case of any damage, through a new online store for parts and tools.
This Self Service Repair program will provide customers, given that they are content with the concept of completing their own repairs access to genuine parts, tools and manuals from Apple, with the iPhone 12 and 13 series of devices being the first to be part of this program.
What is this New Self Service Repair Program from Apple?
The specific scheme is going to be rolling out in phases, with more repairs and device support coming down the line. The COO or Chief Operating Officer of Apple, Jeff Williams had this to say:
Creating greater access to Apple genuine parts gives our customers even more choice for a repair. In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training, and now we’re providing an option for those who wish to complete their own repairs.

For those curious, the initial phase of the program will be focusing on the most key parts of the iPhone, from display, camera, battery, with more sorts of repairs coming later. The next few devices to join this program will be the Apple silicon Macs sporting M1 chips, including the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, 24-inch iMac and the new Mac Mini.
Furthermore, this new Self Service Program will be available via Apple’s new Self Service Repair Online Store, which will offer over 200 individual tools and parts to repair your iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
When Will This New Program Be Available for Users?
Apple mentions that customers who wish to perform a repair will be first encouraged to consult with the Repair Manual, prior to placing orders for tools and parts via the Apple Self Service Repair Online Store. Users who return their broken parts will be getting credit for their next purchase from the Cupertino giant.
Do note that Apple cautions users by saying that Self Service Repair is for “individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices,” with the company encouraging “the vast majority of customers” to visit a professional repair provider with certified technicians so as to get the “the safest and most reliable way to get a repair.”
This new Self Service Repair Program is going to be available starting early 2022 in the United States with an expansion in other markets coming soon.
